Research projects

  • Wind energy: flow measurement on rotorblade surfaces - Boost your energy production !

  • Large energy producing wind mills have a hub height of about 100 meters and blade lengths of up to 60 meters, hence the tip of the blades is moving between 40 and 160 m above ground. At such different heights the velocity of winds differs dramatically. Up to today the speed of wind is measured only at the height of the hub and the tilt angle of the blades is optimized for that "medium" speed. Adjusting the tilt to the actual speed of wind in every moment of revolution will definitively increase energy yields, but up to now no sensors are available to measure the speed of wind far out at the blades.
    This will change.
    Our company has just begun to develop a sensor that can measure the speed of air moving parallel to the surface of it's integration. It has a diameter of less than 1'' and does mount flush with the surface of the blade. All connections to the hub are done solely by optical glass fibres, hence elctrostatic and lightning problems are not relevant.

    We are looking for partners in the wind energy business for a cooperation to test this new sensor!
